Always changing, always brief.Updated hourly.

About

Xumli (ZOOM-lee) is news that fits your day: always changing, always brief, minus the noise.

This site gives you the news as facts only: who, what, where, when, why and how, in one to three sentences. No spin, opinion, speculation or polls.

Every hour, a program reads the headlines and short descriptions from dozens of news feeds, groups the ones about the same event, and writes the summary. Each news desk (such as World, US, or Finance) shows up to 10 stories, ranked by how many news outlets are reporting them and how recently. A story needs at least two outlets, so a desk may show fewer than 10. The summaries are written by AI (Claude, from Anthropic) using only what those outlets reported. Every story links to the outlets it came from, so you can check it yourself.

Terms & Symbols

  • News desk: a section of the site (World, US, Finance, Tech, Sports or Culture).
  • “Match” counts the outlets whose reporting matches the summary.
  • “Differ” counts the outlets reporting something different.
  • “Also covered” lists the outlets that reported on the story without addressing its main facts.
  • “Figures differ” appears when two or more parties give different numbers for the same thing, such as an official count and an organizers’ count.
  • “(New)” means the story appeared in the last hour or two.
  • “(Update)” means its facts changed in the last hour or two.
  • The small gray time after each headline (such as 25m, 5h or 2d) shows how long ago the story appeared or its facts last changed; rewording alone does not reset it.
  • The small count beside a desk name (such as ● 3 unread · ↻ 1 changed) is about you and your last visit:
    • “unread” (●) counts stories that appeared since then, so you may not have seen them.
    • “changed” (↻) counts stories you may have seen whose facts have changed since then.
    • The same symbol and a bold time appear on each of those stories.

Privacy

This site uses no cookies and no ads, and it does not track individuals. It counts visits anonymously (page views, approximate location, browser and device type) with a cookieless tool that cannot identify or follow you. Your own device remembers your light or dark choice, which desks you closed, and when you last visited, so it can show what is new to you; none of that is sent to us. Like any website, our hosting providers keep standard server logs.

Funding

This site is supported by reader donations only, not ads. If you enjoy using this site, please consider making a donation to show your support using the “Donate” button at the top of the screen.

AI can make mistakes. If something looks wrong, follow the links to the original reporting under “Sources”.
